How to prepare for an interview, step by step

Good preparation is mostly a checklist done early. Give each interview in Mali its own board, then work left to right: find out about the employer, practise, and only call a card Ready when you could do it without notes.

The starter checklist

  • Research — the employer's services and recent news, the job advert line by line, who will interview you and the format.
  • Practise & prepare — a 60–90 second “tell me about yourself”, three STAR stories (an achievement, a problem you solved, a mistake you learned from), questions to ask them, salary expectations, the route or video set-up, documents and what to wear.
  • After the interview — a short thank-you email within a day, and the questions you were asked written into your question journal.

Rehearse your stories in Behavioural (STAR) mastery and plan your clothes in the outfit helper.

What does “Plan with AI” do?

It suggests preparation tasks and questions to ask for the company, role and date you entered (and the job advert, if you pasted one). It is told not to state facts about the company, so research tasks tell you what to look up. Nothing is added until you tick the tasks and add them. Each plan uses one AI request from your plan.

How is the preparation bar worked out?

It is the number of cards in Ready divided by the cards in Research, Practise & prepare and Ready. Cards in “After the interview” are not counted.

Is my board saved?

Yes, when you are signed in: every change is saved to your Expertini account and appears in the Expertini app. Tasks from the old version of this tool on this browser can be moved into your account in one click.
